Dance Tuition & Choreography
Sevanti has spent most of her life dancing. She began Classical Ballet at the age of 3, then continued all the way through to her degree in Dance Theatre at The Laban Centre for Movement & Dance. Her interest and practice in Yoga fuses with experience in various movement meditations such as Sufi whirling, the energy of Tai Chi and Chi Kung exercises, and the weight and flow of ‘release’ styles of Contemporary Dance. Sevanti also practices ‘free’ movement and dance, and has done much of Gabrielle Roth’s ‘5 Rhythms’, and is now training in ‘Biodanza’. Much of her inspiration comes from Eastern movement, such as Taiwan’s leading Contemporary Dance Company ‘Cloudgate Dance Theatre’.
Sevanti sees Dance as ‘poetry in Motion’, a way of expressing our deepest truth through the body. When we dance, we live totally in the moment, moving with awareness through all our emotions and sensations. As Rumi would invite us to do in his poetry, ‘we welcome all the emotions, which may be clearing us out for a new delight’.
We dance through joy, sadness, confusion, loss and celebration. This work is the route of Sevanti’s Dance exploration, and it also fuses with more ‘established’ systems and techniques to create her own invention of ‘Yogida’. It is called Yogida as it is based on the skeleton framework of Yoga, yet it focuses on the feminine, receptive state of fluidity, grace, lightness and surrender.
In Yoga, we honor this state as one of the scales which balance us ‘Ida’. Ida is one of the Nadis which weave in and out of the main central Chakras, from the base to the third eye. The other Nadi is ‘Pingala’ which represents the male energies which we also need of fire, action, strength, focus, dynamism and vitality. In today’s world, it feels that many of us do live in this state perhaps more than ‘Ida’. This system is created for those who feel they need to take time for themselves, to just be, to surrender and unwrap themselves from daily stress and the pace of fast living.
‘Yogida’ is taught within all Sevanti’s workshops and Retreats
